Dr. Lai represented The Hong Kong Homeschool Association as one of the panelists at The Hong Kong Happiness Summit 2024
During the summit, Dr. Lai captivated the audience with her discussion on education and homeschooling. Joined by esteemed panelists like Professor Cheng Kai Ming, Emeritus Professor of the University of Hong Kong; Dr. Jimmy Wong, President of the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education; and Dr. Mei Kuan Chen, Principal Ying Wa Primary School, Dr. Lai shared her innovative approach to finding the equilibrium of the educational pendulum. At this equilibrium point, Dr. Lai focuses on cultivating happy, growth-minded, and academically independent students. This approach resonated strongly with the attendees.
Moreover, Dr. Lai's impressive achievement in leading
her 15-year-old homeschooled student (her daughter, Paris) to gain admission to a local UGC-funded university further underscored the effectiveness of her methods. Her presentation drew significant attention from both the audience and the media, inspiring many to explore the possibilities of homeschooling.
This event marked the first time homeschooling was publicly discussed on such a large scale in Hong Kong. For years, homeschooling in the city has operated in a legal gray area, a unique culture that Dr. Lai refers to as "Stealth Homeschooling."
