My Homeschooling Journey: A Reflection on Growth, Love, and Community

Over my 24 years of homeschooling, I have experienced a profound personal transformation. What began as a journey focused on my daughters’ education gradually became a journey of my own — one that shifted me from a fixed mindset to a joyful, growth‑oriented way of living.
I am deeply grateful that I chose to homeschool with authenticity and integrity. By leading through example rather than instruction alone, I earned the deepest love and respect from my daughter, Paris. Our daily interactions have become a source of happiness, playfulness, and ongoing growth. These moments — the small conversations, the shared discoveries, the mutual encouragement — are the heart of our homeschooling life.
This personal journey eventually expanded into community leadership. What I learned at home naturally evolved into a desire to empower other families, especially those navigating the uncertainties and challenges of alternative education. Homeschooling taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of meeting each child where they are — lessons I now carry into my work with the wider community.
Just this morning, I spoke with a former homeschool mother whose daughter, Lujain, has transitioned back into the traditional school system. I told her how genuinely happy I am for Lujain, because I have never viewed homeschooling as a permanent path. When our children are ready, confident, and happy, it is healthy and encouraging for them to return to school or move on to university. Homeschooling is not an escape from the system; it is a flexible, nurturing space that prepares children to re-enter it with strength and clarity.
Lujain has always left a strong impression on me. She is one of my favourite homeschool students — a bright, multilingual girl who, at just ten years old, spoke Spanish, English, and Cantonese fluently. She handled her interview with Dr. Dennis with remarkable maturity, managing everything independently from drafting the interview questions to writing the final report. Her transition back to school is not a loss for homeschooling; it is a celebration of what homeschooling helped her become.
As I reflect on these years, I see a journey shaped by love, growth, and community. Homeschooling has never been just an educational choice — it has been a way of life that continues to evolve, inspire, and empower. And for that, I am profoundly grateful.
My heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dennis, Professor Chan, Dr. Timothy, Dr Samuel, and the many friends who have supported me and our homeschooling community. Your encouragement has been an essential part of this journey.
Wishing you all a warm and joyful Merry Christmas, and a bright, hopeful New Year in 2026. May the coming year bring growth, peace, and continued blessings to every family in our community.🥰
